“HAORI” is a self-standing light which was inspired by the concept of merging the Japanese traditional Kimono. Japanese interior designer Atsushi Shindo is the creator.

Not only do I design items used in everyday life, but also I would like to value the atmosphere and the resonance that occurs when we utilise and engage with them.

To create the prototypes, paper is cut into a two-dimensional pattern and then lifted and crafted into its final, sterical form. This can then be replicated with other materials into the final products. Stick-type LED lights are installed within the shade and the light source can be detached with a magnet.

The materials are able to be replace with industrial products that require craftsmanship, mostly sustainable aluminum. Other materials are leather, fabric, lumber and rattan etc.
