Talking with photographer Nguyễn Tiến Thuận / X1-HAAI – an exaggeration to say that he is a living witness to the formation and growth of architectural activities in Vietnam from 1975 until the present day.
Honourable architect Nguyễn Tiến Thuận, born in , graduated from Hanoi University of Architecture during the destructive war period in the northern region of Vietnam. Throughout his career as an architect, he witnessed and participated in most of the significant stages of the country’s reconstruction and development after liberation. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he is a living witness to the formation and growth of architectural activities in Vietnam from 1975 until the present day.
Having this conversation was not easy. when accepting the invitation, Mr. Thuận requested not to directly answer the questions because he needed time to review various content as he could not remember the details of each stage of his career. After carefully crafting his responses, he surprised us with a 13-page hand-write document, showcasing the extensive body of work and the diverse range of projects he has undertaken alongside his “spiritual child,” X1-HAAI, over the past 50 years.
