Forma

Forma Fabrica is a novel technique of porcelain slipcasting. Each vase is crafted from a modular, reusable, innovative fabric mould that Nir Neria developed using computer design and sewing techniques. Out of passion for ceramics, textile, technology and design Nir set out to study the relationship between porcelain and fabric.

Forma Fabrica Formula

As part of the development process Nir researched and tested a wide variety of textiles and mechanisms for porcelain casting, eventually mastering her current technique.

The technique involves planning and designing computerised 3D models of the mould required for the desired shape. The fabric and its 3D printed frame are modular, reusable and create a unique subtle form to every vessel casted. Furthermore, each mould can be adapted and adjusted to allow different forms based on the designed contour.

Another opportunity explored during this project is the ability to colour porcelain using fabric as a medium to transfer pigments, which allows for a range of new colouring possibilities.

The Forma Fabrica collection is designed to have an elegant and delicate presence while preserving the essence of fabric and implementing textures and colour from ceramic and textile realms.
