Few weeks after Lunar New Year, architect Nguyễn Hà texted me saying that she has been invited to participate and give a talk at the international architecture community event The Architectural Works organised at the Guggenheim Museum (New York, USA). I catch up with this event via Internet yearly and feel really happy for Hà as it is a forum that gathers and disseminates the perspectives many contemporary architects, and this year she is taking part in along with notable individuals on the global architectural map such as Ma Yansong, SO-IL, Neri & Hu, and so on.
Earlier from this event, the Moira Gemmill (a part of W Award 2024 organised annually by The Architectural Review and Architects’ Journal) named Nguyễn Hà architect for a prize in Canada. Unfortunately, due to some visa issues, the ARB Architects could not attend the event. Learning from this experience, Hà applied for US Visa quite early. Having expected everything to go well, she, yet, had some health issues right before the scheduled speaking day.
“For 15 years practising architecture in Vietnam, Hà’s got only 2 projects completed and introduced to the public. Despite having many projects drawn, not so many of those have been built. When her name was announced for an award or sharing a stage with famous architects, it wasn’t just paperwork issues she had to deal with, but as well health problems.” – I thought to myself.
