Social Housing in Paris

Paris-based architecture firm Armand Nouvet has designed 2 social housing residences in Paris, on Orteaux and Pajol streets. This project is a part of a pilot operation initiated by the committee and other social organisations of the city, in order to deliver a high quality of living relied on basic building conditions.

The project on Orteaux street consists of 20 apartments for rent, shops and underground garage. The new volumes are adjusted to its surroundings and a central public garden.

“We minimise the use of concrete and replace it with a larger use of renewable materials such as custom-made wood.” Armand Nouvet shares.

The facade is made up of custom-made wood framed sliding windows that give a very precise quality to both exterior and interior. The double envelope sets an acoustic and bioclimatic device reinforced by Trombe walls. The architectural means deliver energy-saving solutions without relying on technological accessories, but using definitely low-tech displays and devices (orientation, windows, piers, verandas and curtains).

Each apartment is designed with a modest veranda creating optimal living space to welcome natural lighting and ventilation.

At the compound on Pajol street, there are 16 apartments with 2 shops on the ground floor.

The construction involves the usage of raw materials which are structured from bright-coloured concrete that help the building to blend in its neighbours.

In addition, natural wood is used for windows, doors and other details.
