Habitat Andergassen Urthaler

Drawing the Western part of the Eisacktal in Northern Italy lays the great Alps. Here, you can find a granite stone with a considerable percentage of iron, there is also Porphyry – an igneous rock that changes its colour in the weathering process in a dark gray.

Architekt Andreas Gruber has designed Habitat Andergassen Urthaler on a steeply slanting east slope, overlooks the famous magnificent Dolomites mount. With the respect to this environment, the construction was built with an awareness of ecological mineral healthy structure. It was developed in an intensive multi-layered planning process that takes up the essential components of the characteristic natural and cultural landscape of the “Eisacktal” and integrates itself into the topography and the building context in a self-evident manner.

The building was built with insulating concrete and unique details have been developed which work without composite construction. No polyurethane, no plastic.

“The special climatic conditions in the Alps, as well as the requirements of the national energy saving guidelines, force experts to think about how the application of building materials can be optimized without the production of special waste.” Architekt Andreas Gruber

With the aim of creating a building with 100% recyclable in the future, Architekt Andreas Gruber has been step-by-step experimenting and Habitat Andergassen Urthaler could be considered to be the first construction.
